Normans Bay Beach Day with Eastbourne Naturist Swim Club

Norman’s Bay beach is about 1 mile west of Cooden station. There is some parking just before the crossing where Herbrand Walk becomes Sluice Lane. Climb the steps to the beach and walk 200m west. The big outlet is actually a small river managed by the Environment Agency and approximately marks the east end of the unofficial naturist beach. We also do a Beach Clean here in September for the Marine Conservation Society – see picture.
For the last two years around 20 members of Eastbourne Naturist Swim Club have met here for our annual beach day. The water is clean and there is no problem swimming. Best time is between 2 hours before and after high tide. The beach is pebbly until low tide, but there is flat access. There is no problem with quicksand here, but it is best to stay clear of the river outlet. The Good Beach Guide warns about weaverfish. There are no rock pools, but if you are concerned please wear beach shoes in the water. Most bring a picnic to have around midday. A windbreak will be required if there is any wind. There are no facilities on the beach.
